A valid TLC hack licence
Issued by the Taxi & Limousine Commission, current and in good standing.
A state driver's licence
Valid and not suspended. Bring it with you when you come in.
A clean driving record
We check it at the office. Points don't automatically rule you out.
A deposit
Depends on the shift and whether you're taking a car. Call for the number.
HOW IT WORKS
How to lease a yellow taxi in NYC
Leasing a medallion lets you drive a yellow cab without buying one. You lease the medallion — usually with the car — and keep what you earn beyond the lease cost.

SHIFTS
Day shift or night shift?
NYC yellow taxis run on two main shifts, with the changeover in the afternoon. Which suits you depends on how you like to drive and where you want to be.
Day shift
Morning through afternoon. Heavier street-hail traffic in Midtown and the business districts, airport runs, and steadier daylight driving. Suits drivers who want regular hours.
Night shift
Afternoon through early morning. Lighter traffic, longer trips, and late-night demand around nightlife and the airports. Suits drivers who want fewer hours in slow traffic.

What drivers ask us
Do I need my own car?
No. We lease the medallion and the car together, and weekly cars are available.
Do I need a TLC licence first?
Yes. You need a current TLC hack licence before you can lease a medallion.
How much is the deposit?
It depends on the shift and whether you're taking a car. Call and we'll tell you.
Can I switch shifts later?
Usually, depending on what's open. Tell us and we'll move you when a slot comes up.
What if I've never driven a yellow cab?
That's fine. Plenty of our drivers started with us. We'll walk you through it.
Do you lease outside Manhattan?
Our office is in Manhattan, but our drivers come from all five boroughs.
